He was the son of Henry Thomas Burrowes a timber merchant, born 1842 in Tewkesbury, Glos., and his wife Catherine, born 1842 in Sutton Bonington, Notts. Lewis Henry was born in 1877 in Hathern, Leics., his siblings were, Josiah, born 1868, Arthur, born 1870, Mabel, born 1872, Edith Kate, born 1874 and Ethel E., born 1880, all his siblings were born in Hathern, Leics., in April 1881 the family home was at Derby Road, Hathern, Leics. In April 1891 Lewis was a scholar and was residing in the family home at Derby Road, Hathern, Leics., together with his parents and siblings, Arthur, Edith, Ethel, Eliza Augusta, born 1882 and Douglas, born 1885, the latter two siblings were both born in Hathern, Leics. In March 1901 Lewis was employed as a railway clerk and was residing in the family home at Derby Road, Hathern, Leics., together with his parents and siblings, Augusta and Douglas. In April 1911 Lewis was employed as a railway clerk and was residing in the family home at Derby Road, Hathern, Leics., together with his wife of eight years, Beatrice, born 1880 in Broughton, Manchester, Lancs.
