He was the son of Francis Colkin a labourer, born 1859 in Leicester and his wife Emma, born 1860 in Sibson, Leics. Francis was born in 1890 in Hinckley, Leics., his siblings were, Albert, born 1880 in Leicester, Ada, born 1883 and Lily, born 1886, the latter two siblings were both born in Hinckley, Leics., in April 1891 the family home was at 26, Cork Hole, Hinckley, Leics. In March 1901 Francis was residing in the family home at 29, Mill View, Hinckley, Leics., together with his father, now a night soil man, his mother and siblings, Ada, Lily, William, born 1894 and Emma, born 1897, the latter two siblings were both born in Hinckley, Leics. In April 1911 Francis was employed as a trimmer’s labourer and was residing at 19, Grove Street, Hinckley, Leics., together with his wife of one year Rose a hosiery trade worker, born 1889 in Burton upon Trent, Staffs., they were residing in the family home of his father, now a bricklayer’s labourer, his mother and siblings, William and Emma.
