He was the son of Joseph Henry Colver a boot trade finisher, born 1877 in Earl Shilton, Leics., and his wife Edith a boot trade heel builder, born 1876 in Earl Shilton, Leics. Percy was born in 1895 in Earl Shilton, Leics., he had one sibling, a sister Miriam, born 1900 in Earl Shilton, Leics., in March 1901 the family were all residing at 23, High Street, Earl Shilton, Leics., this being the family home of his widowed maternal grandmother, Hannah Smith, born 1837 in Earl Shilton, Leics., and her daughter, Louisa, born 1875 in Earl Shilton, Leics. In April 1911 Percy was employed as a shoe trade riveter and was residing in the family home at 109, London Road, Hinckley, Leics., together with his father and mother, now a shoe trade machinist and his siblings, Miriam, William, born 1906 and James Smith Colver, born 1910, the latter two siblings were both born in Hinckley, Leics., also residing with the family was his widowed maternal grandmother, Hannah Smith.
