He was the son of Samuel Flude born in the October quarter of 1868 in Hinckley, Leicestershire (son of Thomas Flude, 1826 and Ann Wood, 1834) and Mary Ann Flude (nee Taylor, married on the 24th November 1889 in St. Mary’s Church, Hinckley), born 1868 in Hinckley (daughter of Frederick Taylor, 1837 and Ann Smart, 1842). Frederick James Flude was born in the January quarter of 1893 in Hinckley and baptised on the 25th February 1894 in St. Mary’s Church, Hinckley.
Frederick’s father died, aged 25 years, in the October quarter of 1893 in Hinckley.
In the October quarter of 1895, Frederick’s mother married William Foster in Hinckley.
In March 1901 Frederick was absent from the family home at 3, Greens Yard, Hinckley, residing there was his mother, step father, William Foster, a busman, born in the January quarter of 1862 in Barwell and baptised on the 3rd April 1862 in Hinckley (son of Maria Foster) and his half-blood siblings Ernest, born on the 24th December 1895 and baptised on the 20th December 1896 in Holy Trinity Church, Hinckley , Florence May, born on the 29th July 1897 and Walter Sydney, born in the July quarter of 1900, all his half-blood siblings were born in Hinckley.
Frederick’s stepfather died aged 43 years in the January quarter of 1906 in Hinckley.
In April 1911 Frederick was employed as a shoe trade tacker and was residing in the family home at 23, Derby Road, Hinckley, together with his widowed mother, a hosiery trade machinist and his half-blood siblings, Ernest, a needle trade worker, Florence a hosiery trade worker and Walter, a schoolboy.
FAMILY NOTES: Frederick also had an older sibling, Walter born on the 29th March 1890 in Hinckley and baptised on the 27th April 1890 in St. Mary’s Church, Hinckley and who died aged 4 years in the April quarter of 1894 in Hinckley.
Frederick’s stepfather William Foster had previously been married to Caroline Foster (nee Richardson, married on the 9th September 1884 in St. Michael’s Church, Stoney Stanton, Leicestershire), born 1864 in Stoney Stanton together they had the following children, Thomas, born in the October quarter of 1884 and baptised on the 30th November 1884 in St. Mary’s Church, Barwell, Sarah Ann, born on the 10th May 1886 and baptised on the 26th June 1887 in St. Mary’s Church, Barwell and Lucy, born on the 15th July 1890 and baptised on the 31st August 1890 in St. Mary’s Church, Barwell, all the children were born in Barwell. William’s wife Caroline died aged 30 years, in February1894 in Barwell and was interred on the 27th February in Barwell cum Stapleton Cemetery, Leicestershire.
Frederick’s army service enlistment documents do not survive, therefore the currently available information pertaining to his military service has been obtained from the following sources: - 1921 HMSO Publication, Soldiers Died in the Great War, 1914 - 1919, WW1 Service Medal and Award Rolls, Army Registers of Soldiers’ Effects, WW1 Medal Rolls Index Cards, WW1 Pension Ledgers and Index Cards and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission Registers.

Buried in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Poperinghe, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Headstone inscription. “Ever in our thoughts, too well loved to be forgotten, from Mother, Sisters and Brothers.”
Awarded the 1914-15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal.
In the event of his death, Frederick nominated his mother Mary A. Foster as his sole legatee.
On the 13th May 1918, Frederick’s mother Mrs. Mary Ann Foster, of 23, Derby Road, Hinckley, Leicestershire was awarded a weekly Army Dependant’s Pension of three shillings and six pence, commensurate on the 30th April 1918 and payable for life. Under article 21. 1 (c) on the 20th January 1919, the life time payment was confirmed.
