He was the son of Philip James Good, a domestic groom and gardener, born on the 18th October 1866 in Friston, Suffolk and his wife Edith Good (nee Fenn, married the 4th quarter of 1893 in the Blything, Suffolk district), born on the 21st July 1872 in Wickham Market, Suffolk. Philip Stanley was born on the 7th August 1896 in Hollesley, Suffolk and was baptised on the 4th October 1896 in All Saint’s Church, Hollesley, his siblings were, Pearl Edith, born on the 9th April 1895, Percival Ralph, born on the 4th August 1898 and Lorna Pretoria, born on the 22nd January 1900, all his siblings were born in Hollesley, Suffolk, in March 1901 the family home was at Sparrow Hall, Hollesley Road, Hollesley, Woodbridge, Suffolk. In April 1911 Philip was employed working with his father and was residing in the family home at Shade Cottages, Wigston Parva, Leicestershire, together with his father a domestic groom and gardener, his mother and siblings, Percival, a schoolboy, Loma, a schoolgirl, Constance Mary, born on the 24th December 1901, Robert Basil, born on the 12th December 1904 and Jack, born on the 2nd September 1905, the latter three siblings were all born in Hollesley, Suffolk, Octavia Beatrice Mary, born 1908 and twins Nona Henrietta and Henry Decimus, born on the 20th September 1910, the latter three siblings were all born in Wigston Parva. Philip also had another sibling, Phyllis Ruby, born on the 30th October 1911 in Hinckley, Leicestershire.
Philip enlisted/attested into the Regular Army on the 18th August 1914 in Hinckley, and was allotted the service number 10218. He gave his place of birth as Alderton, Suffolk and age as 20 years 10 days. Marital status as single and his trade or calling as gardener.
His medical examination recorded his apparent age as 20 years 10 days, that he was 5 feet 7½ inches in height, weighed 162 lbs, had a chest measurement of between 35 and 37 inches, his complexion was described as fair, he had blue eyes and his hair colour was brown, he gave his religion as Church of England.
He gave his next of kin as his father, Philip James Good and mother, Edith Good, The Shade Cottage, Sharnford, Near Hinckley, Leicestershire.
During his period of military service the following events of note occurred:-

He was awarded the 1914-15 Star, British War Medal and the Allied Victory Medal.
Philip’s surviving service record amounts to a total of thirteen pages, of which only seven pages relate directly to his military service, and these are in fair condition and offer a reasonably accurate overall description of some of the events that took place during his period of his military service.
On Tuesday September 7th, 1915 The Leicester Daily Post published the following article under the heading. “LEICESTERSHIRE AND THE WAR.” – LOCAL CASUALTIES. – Among the casualties of the Expeditionary Force reported from the Base under date 21st August, is that of 10218 Lance-Corpl. S. P. Good, 6th Battalion Leicestershire Regiment, who is stated to have died of wounds.
