He was the son of the late Edward Sarson, an inn keeper and farmer, born 1854 in Lutterworth, Leics., and his wife Julia, born 1854 in Walcote, Leics. Wycliffe Luther, a general carter was born on the 19th January 1882 in Misterton, Leics., he had one sibling, a brother, Thomas, an inn keeper, born 1880 in Misterton, Leics., in April 1911 the family home was at The Bulls Head Inn, Market Place, Hinckley, Leics. The family later resided at 118, Queens Road, Hinckley, Leics. Wycliffe first enlisted in the Royal Navy on the 30th January 1900, later enrolled in the RFR (Royal Fleet Reserve) on the 10th March 1906, he joined the Hood Battalion on the 17th September 1914 serving with this unit until he was reported missing, presumed killed in action on the 4th June 1915.
