In April 1881 Alfred was a nurse child and was residing at Long Clawson, in the family home of John Isam, a carrier, born 1846 in Long Clawson and his wife Harriett Isam (nee Scarborough, married on the 31st October 1871 in the Parish Church, Long Clawson), born 1852 in Long Clawson. In April 1891 Alfred Marshall (Isam) was a schoolboy and was residing in the family home at Main Street, Long Clawson, together with his adoptive father, a grazier, his adoptive mother and their son John, born 13th June 1884 in Long Clawson. In March 1901 Alfred was employed as a cattle man and was residing in the family home at East End, Long Clawson, together with his adoptive father, a grazier, his adoptive mother and their children, John, a grazier and Ernest, born 7th July 1891 in Long Clawson. In April 1911 Alfred was employed as a farm cow man and was residing in the family home at The Lodge, Hose, Leicestershire together with his wife Evelina Marshall (nee Allington, married in the 2nd quarter of 1902 in the Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire district), born 1883 in Harby, Leicestershire and their children, Edith Annie, born 13th January 1903 and Eva, born in the 3rd quarter of 1904, both children were born in Long Clawson, Leicestershire. Alfred and Evelina had two more children, Daisy, born in the 3rd quarter of 1913 and Kenneth W. M., born in the 4th quarter of 1920, both children were born in Hose. Alfred’s adoptive father John died on the 6th August 1929 in Leicestershire, aged 83 and his adoptive mother died in the 1st quarter of 1930 in Leicestershire, aged 78. Alfred was wounded during an enemy air raid on the East Coast. He died of pneumonia.
NOTE: No trace can be found of any military details regarding Alfred’s Army service. The only information that has so far come to light, is that he had served with the Leicestershire Yeomanry and latterly the Labour Corps. At the time of Alfred’s death from pneumonia it appears that he was no longer a serving soldier.
