He was the son of Thomas Haines, a coach wheel maker, born 12th January 1865 in Bruntingthorpe, Leicestershire and his wife Mary Elizabeth Haines, born 1862 in Thringstone, Leicestershire. Edgar Stanley Wilton, was born on the 9th April 1890 in Leicester and baptised on the 1st June 1890 in St. John the Baptist Church, Leicester, in April 1891 the family home was at Cecil Road, Knighton, Leicester. In March 1901 Edgar was residing in the family home at 10, Victoria Street, Narborough, Leicestershire, together with his father, a wheelwright and his mother. In April 1911 Edgar was employed as a concrete works labourer and was residing in the family home at Huncote, Leicestershire together with his father, a carpenter and his mother. In the 2nd quarter of 1915 Edgar married Edith Anne Carey in the Blaby, Leicestershire district, Edith was born in 1887 in Huncote. Edgar’s widow married Harold S. Burbage in the 2nd quarter of 1919 in the Blaby, Leicestershire district.
Edgar was accidentally killed while serving with the 326th Quarrying Company, Royal Engineers, his Army Service record did not survive and as a consequence the circumstances surrounding his death are unavailable. He was awarded the British War and Victory medals.
