He was the son of William Belcher a Bricklayer, born 1859 in Ibstock, Leics., and his wife Harriet, born 1868 in Ibstock, Leics. Harry was born in 1897 in Ibstock, Leics., his siblings were Selena, born 1891, Beatrice Annie, born 1893, Thomas George, born 1895 and William Frinch, born 1901, all his siblings were born in Ibstock, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at Colliery Cottage, Ibstock, Leics., in the Ecclesiastical Parish of St. Denys. In April 1911 Harry was employed as a Brick Carrier and was residing in the family home at Station Terrace, Heather, Leics., together with his parents and siblings, Beatrice, Thomas, William, Grace, born 1903 and Violet Edith, born 1907, the latter two siblings were both born in Ibstock, Leics.

FUNERAL

The funeral of Private Harry Belcher, second son of Mr and Mrs William Belcher, High Street, Ibstock, took place at Ibstock Cemetery on Sunday afternoon. The service was conducted by the Rev. H. Standidge, of Heather, and a memorial service was held in the Parish Church in the evening. The deceased had only joined up a few weeks, viz., Whit Tuesday last. He succumbed to an attack of influenza, dying in camp, near Hull, on Wednesday last. Previous to joining the Colours, he worked at Ibstock Collieries. The “Dead March” (Saul) was played in the church at the end of the evening service, by Mr W. Dunstan (organist), and the “Last Post” was sounded by the buglers of the Church Lads’ Brigade. Private Belcher was 21 years of age.
