He was the son of Charles Atkinson a Coal Agent, born 1860 in Kibworth Harcourt, Leicestershire and his wife Ellen, born 1859 in Coleorton, Leicestershire. Frederick George was born in 1895 in Kibworth Harcourt, Leicestershire, his siblings were Arthur, born 1883, Harry, born 1889, Norah, born 1898 and Hilda, born 1898, all his siblings were born in Kibworth Harcourt, Leicestershire. In March 1901 the family home was at Paget Street, Kibworth Beauchamp, Leicestershire. In April 1911 Frederick was employed as a Hosiery Yarn Winder and was residing in the family home at Main Street, Kibworth Harcourt, Leicestershire.

Prior to enlistment we was a Police Constable with the Metropolitan Police. He was appointed on the 22nd March 1915 and had the collar number 471. His warrant number was 104969 and his final posting was to G Division.
