On 18th February 1944 the following report appeared in the Market Harborough Advertiser:
Kibworth Sailor Presumed Killed
Mr and Mrs JH Winfield of 72 Main Street Kibworth, have been officially informed that their son A/B R.C. Winfield, is missing, presumed killed on war service.
A/B Winfield was 19 and had been in the Navy 13 months. Before joining the Navy he worked at the Home and Colonial Stores, Harborough and at Balfour and Beatty's Kibworth.
