He was the fourth son of Mary Ann Horton. Prior to enlistment he had been a shoe hand by trade. He embarked for France on the 16th March 1917, he was posted as missing on the 28th April 1917 near Arras, however the actual date of his death is believed to have been the 31st March 1917. His youngest brother Herbert also fell.
