ContributeSource: Michael Doyle Their Name Liveth For Evermore: The Great War Roll of Honour for Leicestershire and Rutland. He was the son of Mrs Martha Ann Palmer of Frampton West, by Boston, Lincs. Before joining up he had been an engine driver, he embarked for France with the Royal Engineers on the 18th April 1916, serving with them until he transferred to the Royal Welsh Fusiliers in January 1918. He was wounded on the 22nd April 1918 and lay on the battlefield for three days exposed to the elements of rain and cold, he was rescued and taken to the Countess of Lytton’s Hospital at 37, Charles Street, Berkeley Square London, where he was visited by his mother, sadly he succumbed to double pneumonia as a direct result of his exposure on the battlefield. His elder brother Charles also fell.
