He was the son of William and Annie Smith. Before the war he was engaged in farming, after enlistment and training he embarked for France on the 9th November 1916. He died in St. John’s Hospital, Etaples from gun shot wounds in his thigh. His Sergeant described him as “a good lad, honoured and respected by both officers and men.”
