He was the son of George Bryan an agricultural labourer, born 1854 in Southorpe, Northants., and his wife Maria, born 1855 in Barnack, Northants. George was born in 1893 in Southorpe, Northants., his siblings were Harry, born 1880, Mary, born 1886, Charles, born 1887, Arthur, born 1889, Fanny, born 1892 and Alice, born 1895, all his siblings were born in Southorpe, Northants., in March 1901 the family home was at Southorpe, Northants. In April 1911 George was employed as a farm wagoner and was residing as a boarder at Oasby, Lincs. His sister Mrs Mary Faulkner of Southorpe, Northants was his recorded relative after his parents had both passed away. Prior to his enlistment he was a horse keeper at Little Casterton, Rutland. Originally enlisting as a Driver in the Army Service Corps., he subsequently transferred to the Lincolnshire Regiment, and embarked for Gallipoli in the last week of July 1915. He took part in the landings on the Peninsular, and was reported missing in action on the 9th August 1915.
