Harold Bonser was born in Long Clawson and was the third serving son of William and Lucy Bonser. His eldest brother, Private Edward Henry Bonser, was killed on the 1st January 1917, during the sinking of the Ivernia. Harold's name, along with the names of his brothers Edward and Fred, appears on the WWI Roll of Honour that hangs in the church in Long Clawson.
