Herbert was an Ironmonger's Apprentice and was born in 1894 in Loughborough, Leicestershire, he had a sibling Wilfred, born 1896 in Loughborough, Leicestershire, in April 1911 he was residing at the home of his widower, grand father Eli Angrave, at 2, Broad Street, Loughborough, Leicestershire.
