He was the son of Arthur Bannister a Wine Merchant, born 1856 in Coleshill Street, London, Middlesex and his wife Caroline Agnes Bannister (nee Goodman), born 1858 in Smeeton, Leicestershire. Henry William was born in 1889 in Lutterworth, Leicestershire, he had one sibling a brother Herbert William, born 1890 in Lutterworth, Leicestershire. In April 1891 the family home was at High Street, Lutterworth, Leicestershire. In March 1901 Henry was a pupil at Haileybury College, Great Amwell, Hertfordshire. In April 1911 Henry was employed as a Bank Clerk and was residing in the family home at 17, Langside Avenue, Putney, London, together with his widowed mother and brother Herbert.
