He was the son of John Ellson, an ordinary agricultural labourer, born 1865 in Lutterworth, Leics., and his late wife Ada Ellson (nee Hickley), born 1866 in Lutterworth, Leics. Ernest was born in 1892 in Lutterworth, Leics., his siblings were, Sarah, born 1888 and John W., born 1891, the latter two siblings were born in Lutterworth, Leics., and Reggie, born 1899 in Misterton, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at Woodmarket, Lutterworth, Leics. In April 1911 Ernest was employed as a machinist and was residing in the family home at Regent Street, Lutterworth, Leics., together with his widowed father, a shepherd and his brother Reggie, a schoolboy. On Tuesday February 27th 1917 The Leicester Mercury published the following article under the heading. “LOCAL MEN IN THE CASUALTY LISTS” - The following local casualties are reported under various dates. All are Private’s except where otherwise shown. The town shown against each soldiers name is the home of his next-of-kin. DIED OF WOUNDS. MIDDLESEX REGIMENT.- Ellson, 1659 Sergt. E. (Lutterworth).
