He was the son of Thomas Henry Rose, a painter, born 1867 in Old Bilton, Warwks., and his wife Charlotte Lucy Rose, born 1869 in Lutterworth, Leics. Thomas William Edwin was born in the 2nd quarter of 1896 in Leicester, his siblings were, were, Charlotte Alice Bannister, born 1894 and John Albert Frank who was born in the 4th quarter of 1898, both his siblings were born in Leicester, in March 1901 the family home was at 140, Knighton, Lane, Leicester. In April 1911 Thomas was a grocer’s errand boy, and was residing in the family home at 1, Limes Avenue, Melton Mowbray, Leics., together with his father, a foreman painter, his mother and siblings, Charlotte, a milliner, John, a schoolboy, Ethel Victoria, a schoolgirl, born 1902 and Hilda Lucy, a schoolgirl, born 1904, the latter two siblings were both born in Leicester. His younger brother John Albert Frank died from wounds received in action.
The War Diary for today records. Very hot, found fatigue party of 3 N.C.O.’s and 30 men to strike tents etc at 1st and 2nd line transport on left bank. 1st and 2nd line moved over to right bank during morning. 4.30pm found fatigue party of 2 N.C.O.’s and 20 men for work under Quartermaster. At 6.00pm O.C. Coy’s parade (grenade throwing). Found picquet line as on 26th May.
