He was the son of Stephen Bourne a domestic coachman, born 1844 in Fotheringhay, Northants., and his wife Julia Maria, born 1864 in Buckden, Hunts. Raymond Milner Bourne was born in 1899 in Manton, Rutland, his siblings were Eva, born 1893, William, born 1894, Cecil Milner Bourne, born 1896 and Gertrude Irene, born 1901, in March 1901 the family home was at Manton, Rutland. In April 1911 Raymond was a scholar and was residing in the family home at Manton, Rutland together with his widowed mother and siblings, Cecil, Gertrude and Margaret Miriam, born 1903 in Manton, Rutland. Prior to enlistment he was a gardener, he embarked for France on the 25th June 1918.
