Stoker Francis Vicery Green was the son of Thomas and Agnes Green, of Market Harborough, Leicestershire.

HMS Van Meerlant was a minelayer of the Royal Netherlands Navy, which was transferred to the Royal Navy on the 14th March 1941. The ship hit a mine in the Thames Estuary on the 4th June 1941, and sunk, killing 42 men.

Francis was remembered by his family at 62 Northampton Rd, in a notice placed in the Market Harborough Advertiser on the 1st June 1945:
'In Memoriam'
'GREEN- Just a tribute of Love and Remembrance to our dear Son and Brother, Stoker Francis R., lost at sea June 4th 1941. Also remembering his Shipmates. Still sadly missed'.
