A photograph and report of his death appeared in the Market Harborough Advertiser on Feb 16th 1945 (see image above):
'Missing'
'Mr and Mrs Hammond of 6 Queen Street Market Harborough have now received official news that their younger son, Sergt. John Edwin Hammond (Wireless Operator AC) is now presumed to have lost his life. He was missing from a raid on Berlin in March of last year. He was educated at the Malet Lamber High School, Hull and before joining the RAF in 1941 was employed at Messers. W Symington and Co.s Bowden Mills.'
He and the rest of his crew were remembered by his family in an announcement in the Market Harborough Advertiser on 22 March 1946:
'HAMMOND -In proud and loving memory of John, Wireless Operator Air Gunner, missing, presumed killed, March 24th-25th 1944. Also remembering his crew, Pilot Officer Vipond, F/O Deemer (USA), Sergeants Duffy, Diggle, Coulter and Hull.
