He was the son of Charles R. Broom an agricultural labourer, born 1857 in Oakham, Rutland and his wife Emma, born 1857 in Greetham, Rutland. Arthur Edward was born in 1881 in Pickwell, Leics., his siblings were Charles W., born 1878, Annie E., born 1882, Mary A., born 1886, Emily, born 1889 and Robert, born 1891, all his siblings were born in Pickwell, Leics., in April 1891 the family home was at Cottage in Field, Pickwell and Leesthorpe, Leics. In April 1911 Arthur was employed as a farm labourer and was residing in the family home at Pickwell Lodge, Leics., together with his wife of three years, Louisa, born 1889 in Harby, Leics. The War Diary for today records that the Battalion relieved the 2nd Sherwood Foresters in Brigade right sub section in the evening. Relief involved owing to scattered Battalion. Casualties, other ranks A Company 4 wounded. The memorial shows the surname spelling as Broome.
