Edwin Rowland Carter was the son of Edwin Carter and Florence Maud Carter, formerly of Market Harborough before relocating to Sidcup, Kent.

His death was reported in the Market Harborough Advertiser on January 2nd 1942:

'Market Harborough Man Killed in Action'
'News has been received of the death on active service of Sergt. Observer Edward [sic] Carter RAF. his parents are Mr and Mrs E Carter, late of Institute House, Little Bowden and now of Sidcup, Kent. His grandparents, the late Mr and Mrs J Carter, also lived at Institute House. Sgt Carter was an old pupil of Market Harborough Grammar School'.
