He was the son of Sarah Ann Timson, born 1863 in Ashley, Northamptonshire. Thomas Alfred was born in the 3rd quarter of 1895 in Leicester, in March 1901 Thomas and his mother were residing at 10, Westhorpe, Ashley, this being the family home of his widowed maternal Grandfather Thomas Timson, a retired gardener, born 1837 in Ashley, also residing in the family home were his Uncle Edwin Timson, born 1884 in Ashley and his brother John Edwin Timson, born 1898 in Leicester. In April 1911 Thomas was employed as a general farm labourer and was residing in the family home at Medbourne, Leicestershire, together with his step father, James Turner, a gardener, born 1851 in Heytesbury, Wiltshire, his mother Sarah Turner (nee Timson, married in the 3rd quarter of 1910 in the Market Harborough, Leicestershire district), brother John, a schoolboy and his sister Betsy, a schoolgirl, born 1902 in Ashley.
