He was the only son of Thomas Kaye Bonney Nevinson, a Church of England priest, born 1852 in Stamford, Lincolnshire and his wife Ethel Mary Nevinson (nee Lowe, married in the 1st quarter of 1891 in the Stamford, Lincolnshire district), born 1866 in Stamford. Humphrey Kaye Bonney was born on the 1st December 1891 in Lyndon Rectory, Rutland, his siblings were, Dorothy, born 1894 in Stanford Baron, Northampton and Bridget, born 1896 in Lyndon, Rutland, in March 1901 the family home was at The Rectory, Lyndon. In April 1911 Humphrey was employed as a brewer’s pupil and was residing in the family home at Medbourne, Leicestershire, together with his father a clergyman of the established church, his mother and sister, Dorothy, a student. Humphrey died of his wounds aboard HMHS Somali after being severely wounded during an attack on the Turkish trenches in the Dardanelles. He is commemorated on a private memorial plaque inside the church.
On Friday June 25th 1915 The Melton Mowbray Times & Vale of Belvoir Gazette published the following article under the heading. “LOCAL AND DISTRICT NEWS.” MEDBOURNE RECTOR BEREAVED. Second-Lieutenant H.R.B. Nevinson, of the 10th Manchester Territorials, has been killed in action in the Dardanelles. He was the only son of the Rev. T. K. B. Nevinson, rector of Medbourne, and was 24 years of age. On the outbreak of war he volunteered for foreign service, and was sent with his regiment to Egypt and subsequently to the Dardanelles. He was a prominent member of the Manchester Rugby Football Club.
