He was the son of James Burrows a domestic groom born 1869 in Medbourne, Leicestershire and his wife Rose Ellen Burrows, born 1874 in Medbourne. Harvey was born in the 1st quarter of 1897 in Medbourne, his siblings were, Mary Alice, born 1895 in York, Yorkshire and Percy, born 1899 in Medbourne, in March 1901 the family home was at Bonsors Yard, Medbourne. In April 1911 Harvey was employed as a farm boy and general labourer and was residing in the family home at Medbourne, together with his father, a painter and paper hanger, his mother and siblings, Percy, a schoolboy and Violet, born 1910 in Medbourne. He was discharged from the Army on the 7th March 1917, having enlisted on the 25th August 1915, he was awarded the British and Victory medals. Harvey died in July 1918 aged 21 in the Leicester Royal Infirmary and was buried on the 27th July 1918 in Welford Road Cemetery, Leicester in section M, plot 408, burial number 57707.
Harvey attested into the Army on a Short Service engagement (For the Duration of the War.) on the 25th August 1915 in Market Harborough. He gave his place of birth as Medbourne, Leicestershire, his age as 19 years and 30 days and his trade or calling as butcher. He gave his current home address as High Street, Medbourne. He confirmed that he was unmarried. He gave his mother Rose Burrows of High Street, Medbourne, Leicester as his next of kin. His medical examination recorded that he was 5 foot 7 inches in height, weighed 116 pounds and he had a chest measurement of between 31 and 34 inches. His physical development was described as fair, will improve, his vision was given as 6/6. He gave his religion as Church of England. His record of service began when he joined the Depot of the Royal Army Medical Corps at Stafford as a Private, service number 64499 on the 26/8/15. Posted to the RAMC on the 27/8/15. Posted to the 102nd Field Ambulance on the 24/9/15. Granted fifth rate of Corps Pay on the 14/10/15. Embarked with the 102nd Field Ambulance from Southampton to join the British Expeditionary Force in France on the 9/1/16. Disembarked at Le Havre on the 10/1/16. Admitted to 102nd Field Ambulance, in the field on the 5/3/16. Discharged from Hospital on the 14/3/16. Admitted 102nd Field Ambulance suffering from influenza on the 14/8/16. Transferred to Northumbrian Field Ambulance on the 17/8/16. Discharged from the Northumbrian Field Ambulance on the 18/8/16. Admitted to 102nd Field Ambulance suffering from inflammation of the stomach on the 28/2/17. Transferred to 12th Stationary Hospital, St. Pol on the 4/3/17. Transferred to the 18th General Hospital at Camiers on the 17/3/17. Transferred to England by Hospital Ship on the 29/3/17. Admitted to Nethercourt Military Hospital, Ramsgate, Kent suffering from gastritis on the 30/3/17. Transferred to Romney Marsh Hospital, Littlestone (gastritis) on the 18/6/17. Transferred to Shorncliffe Military Hospital (gastritis) on the 12/9/17. Transferred to Ballykinder Military Hospital, Belfast (gastritis) on the 9/10/17. Discharged as no longer physically fit for war service under Para 392 (xvi) KR Authority IMB Belfast on the 7/3/18. A summary of his service records: Home Service, 25/8/15 – 7/1/16, 136 days. British Expeditionary Force, France, 8/1/16 – 28/3/17, 1 year 80 days. Home Service, 19/3/17 – 7/3/18, 344 days. Total service 2 years 195 days. Harvey was discharged as a result of suffering from gastralgia and was assessed by the medical inquiry to be suffering a 30% disability, he was awarded a medical pension of four weeks at 27 shillings and 6 pence, and 48 weeks at 8 shillings and 3 pence, to be reviewed on the 11th March 1919, sadly Harvey died in July 1918.
