He was the son of Henry Gilmore, a bricklayer, born 1859 in Medbourne, Leicestershire and his wife Mary Jane Gilmore (nee Driver, married in the 3rd quarter of 1877 in the Northampton district), born 1854 in Medbourne. Arthur was born in the 1st quarter of 1888 in Walkden, Lancashire, his siblings were, Agnes Mary, born 1878 in Medbourne, Henry Percival, born 1882, John Leonard P., born 1884, the latter two siblings were both born in Ashton under Lyne, Lancashire and Mary, born 1892 in Walkden, Lancashire, also residing with the family was Arthur’s maternal Uncle, Charles Driver, a carter, born 1869 in Medbourne, in April 1891 the family home was at Chatsworth Street, Worsley, Barton upon Irwell, Lancashire. In March 1901 Arthur was residing at Main Street, Medbourne, together with his brother, Leonard, a farm worker, this being the family home of his Maternal Grandfather, John Driver, a farmer, born 1834 in Medbourne and his wife Hannah Driver, born 1833 in Rushton, Northamptonshire. In April 191 Arthur was employed as a farm labourer and was residing in Medbourne in the home of his Maternal Grandfather, a grazier and his wife who was assisting in the family business.
