He was the son of John Reading, a farm labourer, born 1845 in Medbourne, Leicestershire and his wife Elizabeth Reading (nee Neal, married in the 3rd quarter of 1875 in the Uppingham, Rutland district), born 1854 in Walgrave, Northamptonshire. Frank Alex was born in the 1st quarter of 1896 in Medbourne, his siblings were, Sarah Ann, born 1879, Alfred, born 1886, Ada Ellen, born 1888, Alice, born 1892 and Charles, born 1894, all his siblings were born in Medbourne, also residing with the family was Frank’s nephew, Constant H. Reading, born 1901 in Medbourne, in March 1901 the family home was at Main Street, Medbourne. In April 1911 Frank was employed as a general farm labourer and was residing in the family home at Medbourne, together with his father a retired farm labourer, his mother and siblings, Alfred, a railway labourer and Charles, a general farm labourer.
