Private Stanyer is buried in Jonkerbos War Cemetery in Nijmegen in Holland along with more than 1,500 of his comrades. He is one of 18 soldiers who were buried in adjoining graves who could not be individually identified and are commemorated by special memorials inscribed "Buried near this spot."
His date of death coincides with the second airdrop of Operation Market Garden, the attempt to seize the bridges over the Maas, Waal and Rhine rivers which is commonly known as the battle of Arnhem. The 82nd Airborne Landing Zone at Nijmegen came under heavy German counter attacks throughout the day and a wave of gliders landed bringing reinforcements from the UK.
The cemetery is close to the centre of Nijmegen and easily accessible.
