William Wasley was the son of William and Rose Wasley of, Llwynypia, Glamorgan and the husbance of Eirwen Wasley. He enlisted in the Somerset Light Infantry and volunteered for airborne forces.
Sergeant Wasley successfully completed his parachute training and was posted to C Company, 156 Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Sgt Wasley is known to have been killed north of the DZ (Ginkel Heath) between 18 and 24 September 1944, aged 28, and was given a field burial in the Temporary Military Cemetery beside Verlengde Arnhemseweg, Oosterbeek, and was reinterred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 15 August 1945.

William was found in his parachute harness in a forested area north of Ginkel Heath- it is not known whether he died during his descent, or if he was shot after landing.
