He was the son of Frederick Bateman a Quarryman, born 1852 in Granby, Nottinghamshire and his wife Mary Ann, born 1856 in Corby, Lincolnshire. Frank was born in 1884 in Granby, Nottinghamshire, his siblings were Alice, born 1880, Frederick, born 1882 and Florence K., born 1887, all his siblings were born in Granby, Nottinghamshire, in April 1891 the family home was at Main Street, Granby, Nottinghamshire. In March 1901 Frank was employed as a Limestone Quarryman and was residing with his brother Thomas, born 1875, in Granby, Nottinghamshire and his wife Ada, born 1878 in Nottingham together with their children, Frederick, born 1899 in Beeston, Nottinghamshire and Theresa, born 1901 in Barnstone, Nottinghamshire, the family home was at Barnstone, Langar cum Barnstone, Nottinghamshire.
