On Friday January 26th 1917 The Melton Mowbray Times & Vale of Belvoir Gazette published the following article under the heading. “MELTON AND THE WAR” – FORMER REMOUNT SERGEANT’S DEATH. The death occurred in hospital in France last Sunday of Sergt. J. Craydon, who was formerly employed at the local Army Remount Depot. He succumbed to pneumonia, following an attack of asthma and bronchitis. Deceased was well known in Melton, and greatly respected.
