In April 1911 Jack (John) Castle, born 1886 in Dover, Kent, was employed as a general labourer and was residing as a boarder at 70, Kings Road, Melton Mowbray, Leics. In the fourth quarter of 1916, John married Annie E. Martin in the Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire marriage registration district. On Friday June 8th 1917 The Melton Mowbray Times & Vale of Belvoir Gazette published the following article under the heading. “LOCAL MEN IN THE CASUALTY LISTS” From Tuesday’s list:- WOUNDED. – LEICESTERSHIRE REGIMENT.- Castle, 11079 Sergt. J. (Melton Mowbray).
