ContributeSource: Michael Doyle Their Name Liveth For Evermore: The Great War Roll of Honour for Leicestershire and Rutland. He was the son of John Walmesley of Lucknam, Chippenham, Wilts. In April 1891 Richard, born 1890 in Paddington, Middx. was residing at Hull Bank Hall, Beverley Road, Cottingham, Newland, Kingston upon Hull, Yorks, this being the family home of his maternal grandparents, Benjamin B. Haworth - Booth, a retired J.P. and land owner, born 1824 in Mappleton, Yorks., and his wife Cordelia Haworth - Booth, born 1834 in Barton in Fabis, Notts., also residing in his grandparents home was his mother Violet Louisa Walmesley, born 1866 in Bridlington Quay, Yorks. In April 1911 Richard was serving as a 2nd Lieutenant with the 3rd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment and was stationed at the Infantry Barracks, Fulford Road, York. On Friday October 30th 1914 The Melton Mowbray Times & Vale of Belvoir Gazette published the following article under the heading. “MELTON’S ROLL OF HONOUR” – SIX LOCAL OFFICERS KILLED.- Another officer who will be missed from the local hunting field is Lieut. Walmsley, of the Yorkshire Regiment, who has also been killed in action. For the past two or three seasons he has hunted from Kirby Bellars, and as a reserve officer he rejoined his regiment on the outbreak of war.
