He was the son of Cornelius and Sarah Ann Summers. Other sources show his place of residence as Moira, Leics. The War Diary for today records. GUEDECOURT. On the night of 29th/30th September the Battalion took over from the 6th LEICESTERSHIRE REGT. the line established north and north east of GUEDECOURT. On the morning of the 29th during the preliminary reconnaissance the Commanding Officer Lt. Col. W. DRYSDALE D.S.O was killed by a sniper. Major R. B. UNWIN again took command but was wounded while taking over from the 6th LEICESTERSHIRE REGT. at night.
