He was the son of John and Mary Kirby. He was in farm service before enlistment. He embarked for France on the 27th June 1915. He was killed by a sniper while in trenches at Sanctuary Wood near Hill 60 in Belgium. The War Diary for today records. MAPLE COPSE. A trench mortar was placed in rear of 50 under control of ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY.
