He was the son of James Ernest Chapman a stationary engine driver, born 1867 in Harringworth, Northants., and his wife Priscilla a Griswold knitter, born 1873 in Sileby, Leics. Thomas Henry was born in 1894 in Sileby, Leics., his siblings were, Clara Maude, born 1896 and John W. Ernest, born 1900, both his siblings were born in Sileby, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at Back Lane, Sileby, Leics. In April 1911 Thomas was employed as a boot trade clicker and was residing in the family home at Danvers Road, Mountsorrel, Leics., together with his parents and siblings, Clara, John and Cyril, born 1907 in Rothley, Leics. On Friday May 7th 1915 The Melton Mowbray Times & Vale of Belvoir Gazette published the following article under the heading. “DISTRICT WAR ITEMS.” – MOUNTSORREL MAN KILLED. – Thomas Hy. Chapman, 5th Battalion Leicestershire Regiment (Territorial’s), the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Chapman, Rose Cottage, Danvers Street, Mountsorrel, was killed in action in France on April 22nd. He enlisted soon after the outbreak of hostilities.On Friday May 28th 1915 The Melton Mowbray Times & Vale of Belvoir Gazette published the following article under the heading. “THE ROLL OF HONOUR.” – LEICESTERSHIRE REGIMENT CASUALTIES. The following casualties in the Leicestershire Regiment are announced by the Official Press Bureau:- Reported May 4th.
