He was the grandson of George Lovett a stone quarry man, born 1846 in Mountsorrel, Leics., and his wife Mary, born 1842 in Leics. George was born in 1888 in Mountsorrel, Leics., his aunts and uncles were, Fanny, an elastic factory worker, born 1871, Charles, a stone quarry man, born 1881, Joe, a shoe worker, born 1886 all his cousins were born in Mountsorrel, Leics., in March 1901 his grandparents home was at Main Street, Mountsorrel, Leics. In April 1911 George was employed as a granite quarry labourer and was residing as a boarder at Main Street, Mountsorrel, Leics. The 3rd April 1917 edition of the Leicester Mercury published the following under, LOCAL MEN IN THE CASUALTY LISTS. The following local casualties are officially reported:- KILLED: LEICESTERSHIRE REGIMENT. Lovett, 40267 G. (Mountsorrel). On Friday April 13th 1917 The Melton Mowbray Times & Vale of Belvoir Gazette published the following article under the heading. “LOCAL MEN IN THE CASUALTY LISTS” Tuesday’s list included:- KILLED. LEICESTERSHIRE REGIMENT. Lovett, 40267 G. (Mountsorrel). The above were held over from last week. The War Diary for today records. HOHENZOLLERN RIGHT SUB SECTOR. Usual trench warfare. Enemy’s trench mortars very active. A number of gas shells sent over in various parts of our line. Casualties one other rank killed in action.
