He was the son of Charles Coleman a shoemaker and riveter, born 1870 in Oadby, Leics., and his wife Sarah Jane, born 1875 in Wigston, Leics. Harold Bertie was born in 1897 in Oadby, Leics., his siblings were, Cecil, born 1897 in Wigston, Leics., and Tom, born 1899 in Oadby, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at East Street, Lawn Terrace, Oadby, Leics. In April 1911 Harold was employed as a golf caddy and was residing in the family home at East Street, Oadby, Leics., together with his parents and siblings, Cecil, Tom and Gertrude Phoebe, born 1904 in Oadby, Leics. The War Diary for today records. A large number of 5.9 shells fell between FOUQUIERES and BETHUNE. One hit a tree in the camp and killed one man, wounding eleven others of this unit.
