ContributeSource: Michael Doyle Their Name Liveth For Evermore: The Great War Roll of Honour for Leicestershire and Rutland. He was the son of Harry and Anna Adcock. In 1901 the family home was in board and lodgings at Seagrave Road, Sileby, Leicestershire, present were his father Henry, a widower and a Shoe Rivetter, born 1866 in Oakham, Rutland. Richard was born in 1891 in Leicester, also in the lodgings was a brother John, born 1893 in Leicester. In 1911 Richard was residing in Talavera Barracks, Wellington Lines, Aldershot, Hampshire, and serving as a Private with the 1st Battalion Leicestershire Regiment. Prior to enlistment he was in the shoe trade. He embarked for India in March 1911, and was sent to France at the outbreak of war, where he took part in the Retreat from Mons. He died from gun shot wounds at No.13 General Hospital, Boulogne. His brother Alfred also fell.
