He was the son of George Brewster a bricklayer, born 1866 in Oakham, Rutland and his wife Elizabeth, born 1864 in Wood Newton, Northants. George was born in 1897 in Oakham, Rutland, his siblings were Annie E, born 1892, Edith M., born 1894 and Ernest, born 1900, all his siblings were born in Oakham, Rutland, in March 1901 the family home was at Northgate Street, Oakham, Rutland. He enlisted in the Leicestershire Regiment, but was transferred to the Worcestershire Regiment, embarking for France on the 24th November 1915. He was killed by a shell during the Battle of Arras, when his regiment was involved in an action at Monchy, in which two battalions held up a whole division and shattered a considerable attack, during which course both battalions were practically annihilated.
