He had completed six years service in the army on the outbreak of war, and went through the whole of the late war. He was in failing health for some time, due to exposure while abroad, having been gassed and contracted tuberculosis. Upon his death he was buried at Oakham, with full military honours, a firing party and bearers of the Leicestershire Regt. attending from Glen Parva Barracks. He leaves a widow and one child.
