He was the husband of Mrs Saddington. He had served with the 3rd Battalion of the Northamptonshire Regiment during the Boer War, and held the Queen’s Medal and two bars for that campaign. After serving for three and a half years in the Special Reserve, he joined the Oakham “C” Company in 1910, and volunteered for active service at the outbreak of war, embarking for France on the 27th February 1915. His son joined the Territorials, and emabarked at the same time, and they fought in the trenches together. He was killed by a bullet through the head near Bailleul.
