He was the son of Samuel Robinson Lowe, a domestic gardener, born 1867 in Queniborough, Leicestershire, and his wife Mary Ann Lowe (married in the 4th quarter of 1888 in the Barrow upon Soar, Leicestershire district), born 1865 in Aylestone, Leicester. Edward was born in the 4th quarter of 1889 in Queniborough, he had one sibling, a brother William, born 1891 in Queniborough, in April 1891 the family home was at Main Street, Queniborough. In March 1901 Edward was residing in the family home at Main Street, Queniborough together with his father a general labourer, his mother and siblings, William, Alfred, born 1893 in Queniborough, Evelyn Agnes born 1896, in St. Mary’s, Leicester and Harry, born 1899 in Queniborough, in March 1901 the family home was at Main Street, Queniborough. In April 1911 Edward was absent from the family home at Main Street, Queniborough, residing there was his father a farm labourer, his mother and siblings, Eveline, a Griswold knitter, Celia, born 1902, Walter, born 1904, Charles, born 1906 and Dorothy, born 1908, the latter four siblings were all born in Queniborough, Edward was serving as a Private with the 2nd Battalion Coldstream Guards and was stationed at Ramillies Barracks, Marlborough Lines, Aldershot, Hampshire. Edward married Sarah Ann Dibble in the 3rd quarter of 1913 in the Chelsea, Middlesex district, Sarah was born in 1883 in Combwich, Bridgewater, Somerset, and in April 1911 was residing as a general domestic servant at 2, Alexandra Mansions, Chelsea. Edward’s younger brother Alfred was killed in action on the 25th January 1915.
On Friday January 7th 1916 The Melton Mowbray Times & Vale of Belvoir Gazette published the following article under the heading. “DISTRICT WAR ITEMS.” – QUENIBOROUGH SOLDIER’S DEATH. Pte. E. Lowe, 1st Coldstream’s, died of wounds, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. S. R. Lowe, of Queniborough, who have now lost two sons in the war, while a third is serving in the 6th Leicester’s.
On Friday September 27th 1918 The Melton Mowbray Times & Vale of Belvoir Gazette published the following article under the heading. “QUENIBOROUGH.” – MEMORIAL SERVICE. – A memorial service was held in the Parish Church on Thursday evening for Captain C. H. Woodhouse and 15 others from the parish who have fallen in the war, viz. Lieut. Brooks, Lieut. T. Fox, Edward Lowe, Alfred Lowe, William Glover, Sydney Crawford, Max Crawford, Percy Ogden, Charles Stiff, Harold Mansfield, Richard Mansfield, Isaac Bursnell, William Cook.

Their two brothers served and survived, William Lowe of the Leicestershire Regiment (my Grandfather) won the MM. Harry Lowe served in the Navy aboard HMS Erin
