He was the son of John Bonner a drilling machine driver, born 1852 in Loughborough, Leics., and his wife Alice Ann, born 1852 in Quorn, Leics. Ernest Harold was born in 1897 in Quorn, Leics., his siblings were Alice Eliza, born 1879, Elizabeth Sophia, born 1888 and Mary Jane, born 1890, all his siblings were born in Quorn, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at Cottage, Leicester Road, Quorn, Leics. In April 1911 Ernest was employed as a weaver and was residing in the family home at Leicester Road, Quorn, Leics., together with his parents and siblings, Eliza, Elizabeth and Mary, also residing with the family was his cousin Martha Jane Wallis, born 1890 in Manchester, Lancs.
