He was the son of William Clay a hunt servant, born 1871 in Kinnersley, Worcs., and his wife Ellen, born 1873 in Leicester. William Henry was born in 1896 in Quorn, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at The Kennels, Albrighton, Shropshire. In April 1911 William was residing in the family home at The Kennels, Wellow, Notts., together with his parents.
