He was the son of Joseph and Ann Wakeling of Leicester, and the husband of Kate Amelia Wakeling. The 1901 census records, Joseph Wakeling, Head of the family and a Magistrates Clerk, born 1855 in Leicester, and his wife Ann W., born 1859 in Leicester. The children were Amy, a Board School Teacher, born 1882, Lawrance, a Bank Clerk, born 1884, Philip G., a Boot Factors Assistant, born 1885, Ethel, born 1887, Margaret M., born 1889 and Hilda G. born 1893. All the children were born in Leicester. The family were residing at 35, St. Stephen's Road, Leicester. The 1911 census records, Lawrence Wakeling, Married 5 years and Head of the family and a Bank Clerk, and his wife Kate Amelia, born 1880 in Leicester. The family were residing in Loughborough Road, Quorn, Leicestershire. On the 31st January 1920 the Wyggeston Grammar School for Boys in Leicester published a Roll of Honour in which Lawrence is shown to have been a pupil at the school between the years 1895 and 1899.
