He was the son of Thomas Bunney a cowman and milk seller, born 1860 in Seagrave, Leics., and his wife Harriett a potato chip shopkeeper, born 1864 in Wymeswold, Leics. Lawrence William was born in 1895 in Quorn, Leics., his siblings were Clara Ellen, born 1888 in Ratcliffe on the Wreake, Leics., Lavina, born 1890 in Sileby, Leics., Arthur, born 1892 and Lilian Mary, born 1898, the latter two siblings were both born in Quorn, Leics., and George Sidney, born 1900 in Loughborough, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at 73, Wellington Street, Loughborough, Leics. In April 1911 Lawrence was employed as a labourer and was residing in the family home at 40, Toothill Road, Loughborough, Leics., together with his father, now a farm labourer, his mother and siblings, Lavina, Arthur, Lilian, George, Maurice, born 1904 and Elsie, born 1905, the latter two children were both born in Loughborough, Leics., also residing with the family was Thomas Scott, born 1910 in Loughborough, Leics., who was an adopted child.
